Food Trucks to the Rescue by the Doglando Foundation took place in beautiful Avalon Park, which is a pristine community surrounded by forests five miles down North Alafaya Trail away from the East-West Expressway. Pet rescues and owners brought their adorable pups out to raise awareness, funds, and adoptions rates to make sure that more homeless pets find their forever homes. Rescues place pets in foster homes and help foster owners with incurred expenses until pups are adopted, which is why fundraisers like these are so important.

Food Trucks

Food trucks have enjoyed a recent popularity explosion in Orlando, which created a perfect storm for eight food trucks to participate an afternoon to benefit Florida pet rescues in Downtown Avalon Park. Big Wheel Provisions, Mr. Softee, Mobile Deli, Pupusas Salvadoreñas, Sunset Italian Ice, Jose’s Deli, NY Pizza Wheel, and Red Eye BBQ parked along a side street beside an open quad and did what they do best as restaurants on wheels — made fresh, delicious food to order.

Mobile Deli

Adam and I brought our own pup to Food Trucks to the Rescue, and decided to enjoy Mobile Deli’s steak bulgogi quesadilla, pork bulgogi taco on a flour tortilla, and cucumber salad. Meat or poultry bulgogi is flavorful, savory, and sweet with a dash of sesame, which is Mobile Deli’s specialty. Adam and I enjoyed the pork bulgogi in a taco with fresh scallions, cilantro, tomatoes, red onions, and lime. The pork was juicy, well-marinated, and complimented by the soft bite of the scallions and sweet red onions. The cucumber salad was refreshing and had a nice amount of cilantro interspersed with onions, which was exactly what Adam and I needed on a hot Florida day.

The quesadilla had a nice crunch on the outside and was packed with a melty mix of sharp cheddar, roasted onions, and generous amounts of sliced, grilled steak. Spicy kimchi, which is a spicy cabbage, was also included with the quesadilla. Any one with a craving for meat will be ecstatic to know that Mobile Deli can easily satisfy that craving with a bulgogi flair. Lily also enjoyed her free doggie treat from Mobile Deli!

Rescues

Adam and I took a small walk around with Lily to see all the pups and rescues like Dog’s Best Friend of Central Florida, Pet Rescue by Judy, affordable spay and neuter clinic Spay ‘N Save, Central Florida Great Dane Rescue, and Suncoast Bassett Hound Rescue. Our last stop was Mr. Softee for a regular, cherry-dipped cone of soft-serve. Many organizations and Yelp braved the sudden onslaught of thunderstorms for a good cause. I hope to see more of this kind of event soon because host locations, homeless pets, food trucks, and locals alike would all benefit.
